Lower Your Expenses and Save Money My biggest mistake after losing my job in late 2007 was failing to lower my expenses quickly enough. I had expected to get a job within a few months. So we did not really start making changes until some months had passed, when it started to sink in how much we were spending and how quickly we were spending it.
